3 Reasons to Visit the Boothbay Harbor Opera House

It’s Historic

The Boothbay Harbor Opera House was originally built in the 1800s by The Knights of Pythias, a fraternal order who used the house as a lodge. Over the years, it changed roles several times. The building has been a restaurant and bar, private home, performance hall, and mini-mall. In 2009, the Boothbay Harbor Opera House earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.

A non-profit organization eventually purchased the struggling property and, after orchestrating multiple fundraising projects, restored the building. Today, the support of the community and visitors keep the opera house thriving and open all year! In addition to the area’s lighthouses and museums like the Boothbay Railway Village, this theater is considered one of the most historic places in Boothbay Harbor.

The Lineup of Events Is Impressive

Over 100 events and performances take place at the Boothbay Harbor Opera House each year! There’s always something fun and exciting happening. Events held at the opera house include Grammy-winning acts, evenings with Broadway actors, nights of jazz, and more! The space features excellent acoustics and reasonably priced event tickets, so visiting is a great idea.
