Here Are the 3 Best Lobster Shacks in Maine
Shannon’s Unshelled in Boothbay Harbor is a walk-up lobster shack worth noting! At this tiny seafood spot, visitors can order a fresh, whole lobster served on a buttered bun with a side of garlic sea-salted butter. These on-the-go lobster rolls are popular, too. People often stop by Shannon’s for fresh lobster while shopping, sightseeing, or simply walking Boothbay Harbor’s waterfront. This Maine lobster shack is one of the most unique restaurants in Boothbay Harbor, so consider stopping by while strolling through town.
Dunton’s Dog House
Dunton’s Dog House has been a family favorite for years. This locally owned, no-frills shack serves all manner of Maine comfort food. They serve hot dogs, chili dogs, hamburgers, and clam chowder. The true star of this spot, however, is Dunton’s famous lobster roll. Made with light mayonnaise and plenty of fresh lobster, there’s nothing quite like it! Despite its minimal appearance, Dunton’s Dog House offers street parking and outdoor seating. For visitors who don’t care much for pomp and circumstance, this popular spot is a great choice.
Bet’s Famous Fish Fry
For visitors who have had their fill of lobster rolls, Bet’s Famous Fish Fry is the perfect place to visit on the way to Boothbay Harbor. Keep an eye out for a colorful, hand-painted shack on the left side of Route 27. Though the menu is limited to fish sandwiches, “fish in a dish,” and french fries, it’s difficult to find fresher selections anywhere else. In fact, the owner herself catches the haddock fresh and delivers it to customers in huge portions! We recommend choosing a picnic table behind the shack and digging in. Whatever visitors order, they’ll encounter Bet’s booming Downeast personality and a simple, delicious meal.
Note: This popular spot is open seasonally and only takes cash.
