Take the Family to Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens Aglow
Our favorite way to view Boothbay Harbor Christmas lights is to attend the largest seasonal light display in Maine! Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens Aglow is a breathtaking display of over 150,000 twinkling lights, all spread across the upper Gardens’ 14 acres. There’s no better way to spend quality family time together than rejoicing against a backdrop of colorful lights and seaside woodlands. Visitors often start their night by dining at the on-site Kitchen Garden Cafe, which serves special appetizers and cocktails for the event. Then, they wander the beautifully illuminated Gardens with loved ones! There are plenty of snacks like s’mores and freshly popped popcorn available throughout the grounds for when a craving hits.
Between November 17 and December 31 this year, visitors can attend Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens Aglow 2017. The Gardens are open Thursday through Sunday between 4 and 9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door, but it’s best to simply plan ahead. Cod Cove Inn, our sister property, even offers a special Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens Aglow Package that includes lodging, two tickets to one night of the event, and complimentary breakfast each morning.
Watch Bright Boats in the Harbor Lights Festival
Back by popular demand, the Harbor Lights Festival is an incredibly unique way to experience Boothbay Harbor Christmas lights. In 2017, this annual event will turn 32 years old and continues to delight both young and old visitors. As part of the Boothbay Lights, the Harbor Lights Festival is a mainstay nautical celebration perfect for the entire family. Be sure to take the little ones to this unforgettable event; Santa Claus and his spirited character crew tend to make appearances!
Other highlights of this event include Christmas caroling, a big tree lighting in Downtown Boothbay Harbor, horse-drawn carriage rides, a craft show, and much more. Be sure to stick around until the end of the night, however, because a late-night boat parade is the festival’s signature event! During this part of the festival, local boat captains show off their decorated hulls as they sail in a procession around the harbor. This year, be ready to attend on December 2.
