If you’re looking to check out local businesses, make your way to charming downtown Boothbay Harbor.

A Checklist of Things to Do in Downtown

Downtown Boothbay Harbor is filled with something for everyone, from shops to restaurants and more. The best way to explore this area is by parking your car and wandering on foot. Keep in mind, most places are open seasonally, so check their hours of operation before heading over.

Shops

There are countless shops lining the downtown streets. Maine’s oldest bookstore, Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shop, is found here and is the ideal spot to find your next vacation read. Bring a piece of Maine home with a candle from Seawicks Candle Company or a jam from Gimbel & Sons Country Store.

Restaurants

Just like there are charming shops, there are just as many incredible places to eat. For a sweet treat, visit Orne’s Candy Store, which has been around since 1885. For an authentic lobster roll, there’s no better place than the Boothbay Lobster Wharf. While seafood is the specialty here, you can get almost any cuisine you crave, including Italian from Ports of Italy.

One thing any visitor to downtown has to do is walk across the historic footbridge. Constructed in 1901, it connects one side of the harbor to another and is home to the bridge house built in 1902.
