Boothbay Harbor, Maine: Top 5 Things to Do in May

There’s no better time than right now to start dreaming and planning your next springtime visit to beautiful Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Linekin Bay Resort is booking fast for the upcoming season as families, couples, and groups from across New England (and far beyond) begin to make their late-spring and early-summer plans. We’re one of the only classic Maine family resorts that rest at the head of Linekin Bay overlooking the ocean. There’s a seemingly endless array of outdoor activities to do in Maine, including sailing, kayaking, hiking, and whale watching – here are five must-try activities on Linekin Bay and the surrounding area.

Linekin Bay Bonfire

Let’s start with a simple yet classic activity that epitomizes the Maine lifestyle: a communal bonfire. Linekin Bay Resort has a communal fire pit that overlooks the tranquil bay – the perfect way to end a blissful day in Midcoast Maine. Campfires are a simple pleasure, but there’s just something about watching a sunset and enjoying a glass of wine or sampling many of the fine regional beers, or roasting marshmallows and fireside tales of each day’s adventure while sitting oceanside.

Sailing Excursion

Midcoast Maine is sailing country. We gladly welcome hundreds of mariners to one of the premier Maine family resorts. Linekin Bay Resort is exceptionally sailor-friendly as we provide six deepwater moorings, a spacious dock, and “dock and dine” service for those just visiting for lunch or dinner at The Deck Bar & Grill. Our resort is a short, yet scenic excursion from dozens of peaceful islands, picturesque lighthouses, and pristine beaches. If you don’t own a sailboat, the ever-popular Schooner Eastwind provides award-winning cruises starting in late May.

Seal and Lighthouse Tour

Cap’n Fish’s provides tourists from across the globe with once-in-a-lifetime whale-watching, lobster-hauling, puffin-viewing, and lighthouse cruises. Their 75-minute seal and lighthouse tour is one of the all-time favorites, and it starts in mid-May! This tour cruises past some of the most-popular Maine lighthouses, breathtaking islands, and seal colonies.

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens

Tourists flock to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens every spring to gaze at the year’s first bulbs, magnolias, azaleas, viburnums, daffodils, and many more flower genera. These world-class botanical gardens cover 295 acres of Maine wilderness. We highly recommend strolling along the perimeter of the park to catch a glimpse of the Back River, tall birch trees, and even a waterfall. Kids also love the on-site Native Butterfly House!

Mackerel Fishing

Balmy Days Cruises is known for their exciting two-hour mackerel fishing tours among other boat tours. Hop aboard The Miss Boothbay for an unforgettable voyage to some of the best fishing spots near Boothbay Harbor. Not only will you have a unique opportunity to reel in a boatload of mackerel, but this expedition typically cruises past porpoises, seals, and migrating birds. While their public tours don’t begin until mid-June, they’ll happily guide a private charter during the month of May!
