3 Things to Do in Maine in October During a Fall Getaway

1. The Fall Foliage Festival

A Boothbay Harbor tradition, the annual Fall Foliage Festival celebrates the season, the area’s railroad legacy, and the artisans that make the area thrive. The festival takes place every Columbus Day weekend, and features live music, incredible food, train rides, antique cars, pumpkin carving, and a craft show at the center of it all. Located in the Boothbay Railway Village, the festival offers fun kids activities, too. The children’s corner is sponsored by the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library and the Boothbay Sea & Science Center, and they offer fun activities for kids to enjoy at the festival. There are also interesting exhibits that feature Boothbay Harbor’s railway history, early village life, and antique automobiles depicting the evolution of transportation in the region. When it comes to quintessential things to do in Maine in October, the Fall Foliage Festival in Boothbay Harbor is a great activity.

2. The Damariscotta Pumpkinfest

Another autumn celebration in the Boothbay region that you can’t miss is the Damariscotta Pumpkinfest! This family-friendly event started in Damariscotta, ME, in 2007 and has delighted visitors and locals ever since. When you attend the festival, you’ll enjoy a giant pumpkin parade, catapult demonstrations, a pumpkin boat regatta, and more.

3. Columbus Day Weekend Harvest Festival

If you’re looking for a great way to spend a beautiful October weekend, come to Boothbay Harbor for a Harvest Festival at the beginning on October. When you do,  you’ll enjoy a 5-course harvest dinner, pumpkin carving, s’mores around the campfire, and more!
