General Garden Information

It takes less than 20 minutes to drive from our Boothbay Harbor resort to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Open seasonally from roughly May through October, this attraction is open to visitors daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine. The cost of admission varies depending on age, so check pricing for your group before heading over.

The Different Areas of the Garden

The gardens take up more than 300 acres, which means there are plenty of unique areas to explore. These spaces include:

  • Butterfly and Moth House: The Gothic-style hoop house is home to several species of native moths and butterflies.
  • Burpee Kitchen Garden: Created in 2006, the garden provides the Kitchen Garden Cafe’s chefs with edible flowers, vegetables, herbs, and fruit.
  • Bibby and Harold Alfond Childen’s Garden: If you’re visiting with children, let them wander this two-acre space featuring theme gardens, ponds, and woods.
  • Slater Forest Pond: Keep your eyes open for the frogs and aquatic insects found in this space, home to native shrubs, water-loving plants, and trees.
  • Learning Apiary and Native Bee Exhibit: What started in 2016 has now grown into a space with 16 honey bee hives that give visitors a look at how hives operate.

There are, of course, several other areas to explore, so we recommend giving yourself a full day to wander the gardens.
